Badger Boys Series returns in 2018

Tuesday, December 19th, 2017

Most boys who find volleyball don’t make it “their” sport until high school.

So to have opportunities to play and train close to home while they juggle other sports and activities is a must.

That’s why the Badger Region Volleyball Association continues to help in the coordination of the Badger Boys Series (BBS), a league that benefits boys 12 and 13 years old.

As part of the league, teams compete in four “playdates” spread out from January through March in and around the Milwaukee area.

The playdates are free to participate in (no tournament entry fees), and the Region picks up the cost of the referees. So not only is this low-cost to the clubs, it also cuts down on the amount of travel.

In addition, club directors and coaches like having their athletes compete against other boys their age as opposed to entering their teams in a girls tournament at a higher age level.

This year, the teams competing in the BBS include:

There is still opportunity for clubs to consider adding a boys 12s or 13s team in the BBS. When middle schools finish their boys basketball season, many athletes are looking for things to do and this time might work out perfect for some.

Starting a boys 12s or 13s teams is ideal for clubs, parents or athletes in a community where the local high school does not currently offer the sport. There has been success in communities just this past year where a local club (Jr. Chargers) was able to show the Sussex Hamilton School District the high level of interest in boys volleyball in their area. And thanks to their work, the school added the sport.

In addition, the Badger Region Volleyball Association will give up to $1,000 to any new high school boys volleyball program. An application is required for coaches or athletic directors to fill out before these funds will be distributed.
