In the months leading up to the Badger Region Championships, Nathan Higgins’ story was one of resilience, determination, and the steady process of rediscovering his place in the game. By the time the tournament arrived, that journey had taken on a new and powerful meaning—one that came full circle.
Now stepping onto the court not as a player, but as a first-year coach, Nathan experienced the event from an entirely different vantage point. The same gym that once shaped his competitive identity became the place where he could give back, guiding a new generation through the moments he once lived himself.
Returning to that environment brought a renewed appreciation for everything volleyball has given him. But more importantly, it highlighted how much he still has to offer the sport.
What stood out most over the weekend wasn’t just the competition—it was the connection. Watching his team play with confidence, support one another, and genuinely love the game reaffirmed why he chose to step into coaching. In many ways, the experience became a shared source of inspiration.
Nathan set out to impact his players, but in the process, they impacted him just as deeply.
Being part of the Badger Region Championships again—this time on the sidelines—was more than a milestone. It was a reminder that while roles may change, the passion for the game and the sense of community it creates remain constant. And for Nathan, this new chapter is only just beginning.
Nathan’s journey continues, and the support of this community continues to make a meaningful difference every step of the way.
One of the most powerful ways to show that support is by being part of an event that has quickly become a special tradition—Play for Nate.
Good Times is hosting the 3rd annual Play for Nate at New Berlin Ale House on Saturday, August 8th. This event brings together athletes, families, and supporters from across the volleyball community for a full day of competition, connection, and purpose. With junior beach doubles for both boys and girls, along with adult co-ed and men’s beach quads, there is truly an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Beyond the volleyball, the day is filled with energy and community—raffles, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, great music, and a full food and beverage experience with menu service delivered right to the courts.
But what makes this event truly special goes far beyond the atmosphere.
Every single dollar raised goes directly to supporting Nathan Higgins on his continued journey.
It’s more than a tournament—it’s a chance to show up, stand behind one of our own, and be part of something bigger than the game itself.
Rain or shine, we invite you to come out, compete, connect, and show your support.
