Brian Rushmer
Brian Rushmer — Junior Rep (elected Aug. 2019)
Brian Rushmer is currently in his eighth year as the Head Men’s Volleyball Coach at Lakeland University. In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, he serves as the Director of Volleyball Operations for Milwaukee Volleyball Club and as the Boys Varsity Volleyball Coach at Germantown High School. Rushmer has been coaching volleyball throughout the state of Wisconsin for 23 years.
Rushmer joined Lakeland University after spending four years as an assistant coach at nearby Marian University in Fond du Lac. During his time at Marian, he served as an assistant with both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs. He joined the men’s program in 2015, shortly before its first varsity season, and also assisted Sarah (Angelos) Frings with the Sabres women’s volleyball program during the 2018 season.
A native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Rushmer has coached volleyball at virtually every level, including collegiate, high school, club, and recreational programs, as well as both indoor and outdoor volleyball. Most notably, he has served as the head coach of the Germantown High School boys varsity volleyball program since 2006. He started the program from the ground up and has guided the team to nine state tournament appearances. Under his leadership, Germantown finished as WIAA State Runner-Up in 2013, 2019, and 2025, and captured the WIAA State Championship in 2018. Rushmer was also named the 2011 WBVCA Coach of the Year.
Rushmer has been involved with the Milwaukee Volleyball Club since 2010 and has served in a variety of coaching and leadership roles. He has also directed volleyball camps and programs through the Germantown Parks and Recreation Department since 2007. In addition, he coaches with the sand volleyball program at Ozaukee Volleyball Club, where he leads summer camps.
Rushmer has been involved with the region as both a player and coach since 2002. He has served as a board member since 2019 and has been a Region High Performance All-Star Coach since 2018. His extensive experience across collegiate, high school, club, recreational, indoor, and outdoor volleyball has provided him with a broad perspective on the growth and development of the sport throughout the region.
