2023 BOYS HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STATE HONOREES, COACH OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

Ambrose Engling, a senior right side hitter from Middleton High School, has been named the 2023 Badger Region/ Frisco Mo Boys High School Volleyball Player of the Year in voting done by Wisconsin boys high school volleyball coaches. The Player of the Year and the All-State Teams are sponsored by the Badger Region Volleyball Association and Frisco Mo Apparel.

Engling was named First-Team All-Big 8 by the conference earlier this year, during which time he had 253 kills, a .346 hitting percentage, 27 service aces, 79 digs and 44 blocks. His Middleton team won the prestigious Whitefish Bay Invitational and both the Big 8 regular season and Big 8 conference tournament. Late in the season, a win over No. 3-ranked Marquette helped Middleton solidify the No. 1 seed in the WIAA State Tournament. Engling was a vital part of leading Middleton to the 2023 WIAA State Championship Nov. 4 in Green Bay. During the team’s state run, Middleton defeated Union Grove, No. 6-ranked Kimberly and No. 2-ranked Arrowhead in the championship.

The 2023 Gary Sorenson Coach of the Year award was given to Matt Seidl. This season, Seidl led the Papermakers to a third-place finish at State, second place in the Fox Valley Association regular season and a 34-7 record on the season. Kimberly won the FVA Conference Tournament and the Dave Hash Invite at Kaukauna High School earlier this year. Kimberly finished the season ranked sixth in the Badger Region / Frisco Mo Wisconsin Boys High School Top 10 list.
